JETSCAPE ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF NEW EMBRAER E190AR AIRCRAFT AND LEASE TO KENYA AIRWAYS
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, June 1, 2011 – Jetscape today announced the acquisition of a new Embraer E190-100IGW aircraft and delivery on lease to Kenya Airways, Nairobi, Kenya. This is the second new E190 leased by Jetscape to Kenya Airways. The first E190 was delivered December 2010. Both aircraft have been leased for an eight-year term. Financing for both aircraft was provided by the Brazilian export credit bank, BNDES, under Jetscape’s existing financing facility. These E190’s will join Kenya Airway’s existing Embraer fleet of five E170 aircraft. Previously, Jetscape has also placed two used E170 aircraft on four year leases to Kenya Airways on behalf of Finnair, Helsinki, Finland.
“We are thrilled about our expanding relations with Kenya Airways, Kenya’s national flag carrier and named as Africa’s Business Airline of the Year in 2010. They have truly lived up to their slogan as “The Pride of Africa” and we are happy to be doing more business with them.” said John Evans, Jetscape’s Chairman and CEO. “We appreciate Kenya Airway’s trust in Jetscape and we wish them great success with their growing fleet of Embraer’s modern and efficient E-Jets. This is also the sixth new E-Jet that BNDES has financed for Jetscape. We value BNDES support and continuing confidence in Jetscape.”
Dr. Titus Naikuni, CEO of Kenya Airways, added that, "The Embraer E190 is a state of the art regional jet. It brings to Kenya an even higher level of technological advancement, lower maintenance and operational costs. The combination of the E170 and E190 in our network will offer greater flexibility in right-sizing the aircraft to meet route demand, using the same crew and ensuring consistent, high comfort for our passengers."
